Two persons were killed while one person was seriously injured in two separate road mishaps at Arambol and Farmagudi on Friday.
The first incident took place at Arambol at about 11.30 am as Ulhas Gokarnkar (63), a retired government employee and resident of Khalchawada, was returning home after visiting a bank.
Gokarnkar was crossing the road, when he was knocked down by motorcycle. He sustained serious injuries and was moved to a hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.
Incidentally, the accident was captured on CCTV camera. Police Sub-Inspector Paresh Kale is investigating the case.
The second incident took plaace at about 3.45 pm, when Eknath Shetkar (67), a motorcycle rider from Santacruz-Ponda, was killed when his motorcycle and a truck collided with each other at the Safa Masjid junction near KTC bus stand in Ponda.
Shetkar sustained serious injuries and later died at the sub district hospital while his wife Sulochana (57), who was the pillion rider, was seriously injured and shifted to the GMC hospital in Bambolim.
Following the fatal road mishap, locals have appealed to authorities to adopt safety measures at the Safa Masjid junction as three roads, two leading to Farmagudi and one from Farmagudi to Safa Masjid, meet at the same place, making the junction an accident-prone zone.
