In a joint action, the Mamlatdar and mines department raided two laterite stone quarries at Camurlim in Bardez.
The Colvale police have registered an offence against the owners of these quarries and seized the generator and other material.
The action was taken on Thursday under the supervision of Mamlatdar Pravin Gawas, after a special campaign was conducted jointly by the Mamlatdar office, department of mines, PWD, RTO and Colvale Police.
The team first raided the banks of Chapora river, but no sand mining was seen there and no sand was seen stocked at the site. After that, the team raided the Camurlim hill, where two stone quarries were found with lot of laterite stones cut and stored.
There was a power tiller, horizontal machine to cut the laterite stone and generator at the site. This machinery was seized and handed over to the police.
An offence was registered against the owners of these mines under the Section 379 IPC and Mini Mineral Excavation Law Section 38 and 62 (2). Further investigation is being done by police sub-inspector Sonam Verenkar.
