Karnataka Water Resources Minister Govind Karjol has appealed to people of Karnataka not to panic about the constitution of PRAWAH (Progressive River Authority for Welfare and Harmony) by the central government.
He has also exuded confidence that the PRAWAH would help Karnataka in getting its share of water as awarded by the Mhadei Water Disputes Tribunal (MWDT).
He was addressing the media persons to brief about preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Belagavi on Monday.
Modi is visiting Belagavi to inaugurate the renovated Belagavi railway station, the doubling of tracks and to launch various Central Government schemes for the farmers.
“There is no need to panic regarding the constitution of PRAWAH as it wouldn’t affect the implementation of Kalasa-Bhandura water diversion project where Karnataka will get its share of 3.9 tmc ft of its share of water from Mhadei tributaries,” Karjol said.
“After giving approval to the detailed project report (DPR), the PM Narendra Modi led cabinet has now approved the constitution of PRAWAH. The authority will have representation of Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra states,” he said.
Stating that this would not affect the implementation of the projects, Minister Karjol said the authority would help in utilising the water share of Karnataka as allotted by the MWDT.
