Despite a ban on heavy traffic along the Goa-Belagavi road via the Chorla Ghat from May 4 and May 11, some trucks continue to ply along the route and two separate mishaps were reported on Wednesday alone.

The drivers of both trucks had a lucky escape, but both vehicles sustained extensive damage in the mishaps.

In one incident, a truck travelling from Belgaum to Goa rammed into a roadside tree in the morning.

In another incident, a truck was also travelling from from Belgaum to Goa when the driver lost control of the truck and the vehicle fell into a ravine.

When contacted, the driver said the accident took place at night when he lost control of the truck at a sharp turn.

Despite a ban by the State government, many trucks were still seen proceeding from Belagavi to Goa and this has left many locals to wonder if authorities are strict in implementing the ban.

Hotmixing of the road between Sakhali and Chorla has begun since May 3 and this has compelled the PWD authorities to issue a ban on movement of heavy vehicles along the route.

However, with many trucks still flouting the ban and plying on the route, the roadwork has been affected and many locals have demanded that heavy vehicles must be stopped at the Goa border, to prevent them from proceeding into Goa.
