Two siblings were injured when a coconut tree came crashing down on their house in Podwal in Corjuem-Aldona early Tuesday morning.
The incident took place at around 6.10 am when a coconut tree got uprooted and fell on the house of Vinayak Nagde. At the time, Vicky Nagde (32) was asleep while his sister, Vaidyahi (28), was doing some work.
The roof of one room came crashing down, injuring Vaidyahi and Vicky. Neighbours then moved them to the Aldona Primary Health Centre, where they received medical treatment and were later sent home.
On receiving information about the incident, a fire brigade from the Mapusa fire station went to the site and cleared the fallen tree.
The house sustained considerable damage in the mishap and the fire station has estimated the losses at Rs 2 lakh. A Mapusa police team later conducted a panchanama of the incident.
“Even though there was no rain or wind at the time of the incident, the neighbour's coconut tree collapsed on our house. We were fortunately saved by the grace of God," said Vicky Nagde.
Later, Aldona MLA Adv. Carlos Ferreira visited the spot and assured the Nagde family of necessary assistance. Mapusa Councillor Adv Tarak Arolkar provided financial assistance of Rs 25,000 to the affected family.
