2 teens killed in mishap near BITS Pilani

The unexpected closure of schools amid global Coronavirus concerns proved tragic for two teenagers from Lamani colony in Zuarinagar, when they were fatally knocked down by a speeding car on the highway near BITS Pilani at Zuarinagar on Monday morning.  

According to Verna Police, the deceased, Darshan lamani (15) and Anil Rathod (16) were students of Std 9 and had arrived in Zuarinagar after schools had been closed in the wake of Coronavirus fear.  

“While one was a student of St Joseph Vaz High School at Cortalim, the other was a student of Katyayani Baneshwar Vidyalaya in Canacona. Both were neighbours and had gone for a morning walk at about 7 am when they were hit by a speeding car (KA-51-MM-1501). The impact was such that the two were flung in the air and fell at some distance away from the road,” said the source, adding that both died on the spot.  

Verna police conducted the panchanama and detained the car driver, G Gurugun (36) of Vellore in Tamil Nadu, while also seizing the car involved in the fatal mishap. Verna police is further investigating the case.
