2 yrs jail for man in cheating case

Chief Judicial Magistrate, Panaji Pooja Kavalekar, has sentenced one Arthur Kennedy Lawrence to undergo imprisonment of two years and to pay a fine of Rs 40,000 for cheating several persons in 2008 on the pretext of securing overseas employment for them.

Ashish Kerkar, resident of Pilgaon, Bicholim, was acquitted of all charges in the same crime as the court noted that his role was restricted only to introducing the complainant to the accused. “No evidence has been produced on record to show the delivery of money to him,” the judgment reads.  
The accused with their common intention dishonestly induced the complainant Samir Tari to part with Rs 67,000 on September 30, 2008 and Oct 16, 2008 on the pretext of sending him abroad for job in a hotel in Kuwait.   
Similarly, Lawrence dishonestly induced Ravikant Parwar to part with Rs 65,000 on Oct 22, 2008 and Stanley Furtado to part with Rs 40,000 on October 30, 2008 on the same pretext while also cheating several other persons to the tune of Rs 9.90 lakh.
