Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday commissioned a 20,000 litre capacity cryogenic oxygen tank at the old building of Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim. GMC is presently under the glare of national media due to its oxygen crisis and oxygen supply mismanagement which has caused over 70 deaths in a matter of three to four nights between 2 and 6 am. The cryogenic tank will now supply direct oxygen to Covid patients admitted at the facility.
Speaking to the media, Sawant said that this is the third such facility being activated in the state to tide over the oxygen related issues which are hampering management of Covid patients in the state.
“The first was a 6,000 kilolitre tank at South Goa District Hospital. The second tank was a 20 kilolitre state of the art facility set up at the new block on GMC campus using PM-Cares funds. This is the third such facility set up at old GMC, The manifold system of trolleys will be on standby in case of emergencies,” CM said.
With this, all major government hospitals have been shifted to tank supply of oxygen.
The state government is presently equipped with more than 700 oxygen concentrators.
It is unclear whether the infrastructure was purchased by the government or is being leased from the private player.
Meanwhile, Health Minister disclosed that the CM has issued further directions to add one more 6,000 ltrs tank to set up another oxygen manifold over the coming eight to 10 days.
