Ahead of the visit of AICC Goa desk in-charge, Dinesh Gundu Rao, Congress veteran and former Chief Minister Luizinho Faleiro launched a veiled attack on the present party MLAs and those who have left the party, for having demanded his resignation as GPCC chief after the 2017 Assembly polls.
Faleiro said it would be better for the Congress if the High Command takes a call on the GPCC leadership at the earliest. Saying that he is not interested in the taking over the reigns of the GPCC, Faleiro, however, said there are many who are interested to lead the party and they should get an opportunity.
“I had left the post of party president in 2017 after I was told by some of the MLAs that they want to form the government within 24 hours. These MLAs, some of whom are presently members of the party and others who joined the BJP, maintained that they could get some MLAs to form the Congress government on condition that Luizinho Faleiro steps down from the GPCC post. I had already quit the post and approached then Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi to relieve him of the post since there’s a possibility of the Congress returning back to power if I step down from the post”, he said.
Faleiro added: “Finally, my resignation was accepted but I am waiting since 2017 for the 24 hours to be over so that we form the Congress government”.
On whether he would shy away from taking over the reigns of the GPCC, Faleiro said there are so many people who are interested to take over the party reigns, adding they should get the opportunity. He, however, said it is for the high command to take a decision in the interest of the party and the organization.
“Since the Assembly elections are fast approaching, the faster they take a call, the better it would be for the party”.
Meanwhile, Faleiro said the the CZMP public hearing should be held as per the convenience of the people. “These are serious hearings and they ought to be held as per the convenience of the people. The government should understand these are difficult times and should fix the venue, date and time as per the people’s convenience”, Faleiro added.
