23 held for obstructing work of mobile tower

PONDA 

Around 23 persons, including twelve women, were arrested by Ponda police on charges of obstructing work to install a mobile tower near Ambeshi bridge at Ganje-Usgao.   

The locals have been opposing the mobile tower for several months.   

A group of locals from Ganje-Usgao on Wednesday gathered at the site and opposed the work to install the mobile tower.   

Sources informed The Goan that the mobile company had sought police protection by showing necessary documents in support of the work.   

Ponda Police made preventive arrests under Section 151 CRPC after locals did not listen to them and continued their protest.  

The process to release them on bail was was going on till late evening. Ponda police is investigating the case.
