VASCO
A stray dog that spent nearly 10 days with its head lodged inside a discarded plastic container was rescued at Chicolna in Bogmalo on Tuesday.
The dog, unable to eat or drink properly for over a week, was tracked following repeated alerts from local residents.
It had been spotted several times, but earlier rescue attempts failed as the frightened animal fled into dense cover.
The breakthrough came on Tuesday after animal welfare workers received fresh information that the dog had again been seen in the Chicolna-Bogmalo area, with its face still trapped inside the rigid plastic
container.
A joint rescue team comprising a District Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA) officer and People for Animals (PFA) rescuer Kelly Menezes, local residents Christine and Panchayat worker Ranjitha, responded to
the location.
The team cornered the exhausted animal and carefully cut away the container, freeing its face without causing further injury.
The dog was then shifted to the PFA facility in Vasco for veterinary treatment. It is being monitored for severe dehydration, malnutrition and respiratory complications caused by prolonged confinement inside the container.
