24-yr-old UP worker dies in steel unit at Cuncolim Ind Estate

A 24-year old worker from Uttar Pradesh Pravin Kumar Kannaujiya died at a steel unit at the Cuncolim Industrial Estate on Thursday morning.

The deceased, who was working on a moulding machine, sustained penetrative injuries to his throat which resulted into his death.

The Cuncolim police acted swiftly by registering an FIR against the officials of M/s Global Ispat company, namely Vimal Singh, the Plant Supervisor and Satish Ramjanam Singh Plant Production Manager/Engineer, besides the management of M/s Global Ispat Company Pvt Ltd. The officials and the management have been booked under Section 304-A of the IPC for negligence.

The police initiated the action based on a complaint lodged by Cuncolim Lady PSI Kavita Rawat, stating that the company officials, who were entrusted to supervise the work of labourers working under them, at the plant, acted in a negligent manner by not providing safety equipments to the labourers as a result of which one of their labour/ worker died after he sustained penetrative injuries to his throat.

Earlier, a complaint was lodged by Adv Sapnil Desai with the Cuncolim police against the directors and official of Global Ispat Pvt Ltd, Cuncolim following the death of a worker.

In his complaint, he alleged that the factory has not followed the safety protocols as mandated and the factory officials are negligent since the labourer was made to work without any safety gears and moreover the factory officials failed in their duty to supervise the work.

He demanded stringent action against the directors and the officials of the factory for falling to take care and caution of the safety of labourers working at the site.

Adv Desai recalled that on October 20, 2020, a similar incident had taken place where a labourer died due to failure of the factory directors and officials to take care and caution of the safety of labourers working at the site.
