While Pomburpa-Olaulim Sarpanch, Vinay Chopdekar and Camurlim Sarpanch, Kalpana Dalvi have decided to stay from the polls for personal reasons, Aldona Sarpanch, Trisha Naik, Colvale Sarpanch, Amita Naik and Pirna Sarpanch, Surendra Chari have also decided not to contest in the election.
“I have decided to stay away so that others should also get a chance to contest,” said Trisha Naik, Aldona sarpanch.
Interestingly, Chopdekar and Dalvi were one of the few sarpanchas who completed their full five-year term as sarpanch.
Assagao Sarpanch, Priyanka Sangelkar also decided not to contest after running the affairs of the panchayat for four-and-half years.
Curiously, Sangelkar was removed from the chair six months before the assembly polls and Victor D’Souza remained at the helm as acting sarpanch of Assagao. Assagao Panchayat was reserved for woman sarpanch.
