CANACONA
Three persons, including an ex-sarpanch of Poinguinim, succumbed to Covid in a day, even as 72 fresh cases were detected in Canacona taluka on Thursday.
Kusta Talponkar, who served as Sarpanch from 2003 to 2005, a woman from Agonda and a man from Chaudi-Canacona died from Covid-related complications.
Canacona recorded 72 new cases on Thursday, taking the active cases to 671 in the taluka. So far, 24 persons have succumbed to the virus.
Meanwhile, 380 people above 45 years got their first dose of the vaccination at the two vaccination drives at Loliem-Polem (165) and Poinguinim (215) on Wednesday.
Canacona Mamlatdar Vimod Dalal said more vaccination drives will be continued on Friday at Damodar Vidhyalaya (Loliem) and Shradhanand Vidhyalaya (Poinguinim).
Similarly, such vaccination drives will be conducted on Friday and Saturday at GHS (Shristhal) and GHS (Gaondongrim), while a separate vaccination camp will be conducted in Cotigao on Saturday. All vaccination camps will be held from 9 am to 2 pm.
