31 rescue centres identified in Ponda

As a part of disaster management plan, the Ponda Mamlatdar has identified 31 rescue centres for Ponda taluka, to provide shelters.

Mamlatdar Joao Fernandes informed that in most of the areas, government primary schools are identified for the cause, while in Quela, Adcolna, Marcaim and Durbhat, panchayat halls would be used for the purpose. At Khandepar, Opa water works building will be used.  
“If any situation occurs during rainy season, we can shift the people to these nearby rescue centres,” Fernandes said.  
An emergency control room has also been setup by the Mamlatdar Ponda, where people can contact for any arising situation. “People can call on 2312121 and inform us about any rain-related incident,” 
he added.  
Deputy Collector Navnath Naik informed that PWD has been directed to visit all the rescue centres to check if sufficient facilities exist there. “I have told the PWD officials to check if any more facilities are needed,” Naik added.  
He said all the departments concerned will send daily report to the Collector and Superintendent of Police South in regard to rain incidents. “They will have to send report regarding the incidents informed to them by the public,” he said.  
He has appealed to the panchayats to write letters to cattle owners if they are found on the roads.  
“During rainy season, cattle squat on the roads, leading to accidents. It will be good if the panchayats take measures in this regard.” he said.  
Meanwhile, Naik, who is also the chief officer of Ponda Municipal Council, said the local bodies will give 30 labourers to the fire station to help them. “During rainy season, incidents of falling of trees takes place and to cut the trees and clear it from the site, PMC provides labour to the fire station,” he said.
