MMC Chairperson Deepak Naik informed Deputy Collector Mahadev Arondekar that the council has identified about 35 unsafe buildings in the port town.
However, Arondekar assured to write to the PWD (buildings division) to conduct survey and submit stability report and based on the report, the council can further initiate its process.
DySP Laurence D’Souza informed that trees along the widening of the highways from Cortalim to Vasco and Cortalim to Verna are unsafe and it could fall.
Acting on the information provided by D’Souza, Arondekar directed Mormugao Mamlatdar Satish Prabhu to write to the highway officials and get the trees cut before it causes any threat to human lives.
When asked why the residents of Desterro Apartments, whose parapet collapsed on February 20, and the residents of Happy Apartments whose floor caved in on December 16, 2016, were not called for the meeting,
Arondekar said acting on the news that appeared in the local dailies, the residents of Pushpanjali building were called to direct them to evict the premises.
“Since I came to know about these two buildings and the latest Pereira Chambers, Vasco, whose parapet collapsed in the wee hours of Monday, I will convene another meeting on June 16 and I will call the society members to inform them about the danger and to evict the premises,” said Arondekar.
When brought to his notice the landslide near Goa Shipyard Limited due to which two boulders came rolling down and damaged a column of a building, Arondekar said he will call the builder concerned and direct him to take some protective measures to avoid further landslide.
