A building was partially damaged following a landslide near Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), Vasco, on Monday afternoon.
Continuous rains in the port town led to a landslide near GSL, which brought down two boulders from a hillock that partially damaged Ricardo building.
According to Vasco fire officer Francis Mendes, they received a call at about 2 pm informing that two boulders rolled down and partially damaged a column of Ricardo building. “We rushed to the site and found that two boulders which came down after damaging the compound wall partially damaged a column of the building,” he said.
“The damage is not much, but there is another big boulder resting on the mud and if it slides down, then it will have major impact on the building. The builder should immediately act and try and make a provision to avoid the boulder from rolling down and protect the building,” added Mendes.
During the meeting with Mormugao Deputy Collector Mahadev Arondekar, Mendes took up the matter. Arondekar directed Mormugao Mamlatdar Satish Prabhu to find out the builder and send a notice summoning him to the deputy collector’s office.
Later, Arondekar directed the MMC officials to clear the mud and the boulders. However, Mendes urged Arondekar not to remove the boulders till the boulder on the hillock is secured.
“It’s my request not to remove the boulder, as it will act as protection if the other boulder on the hillock come rolling down,” Mendes told Arondekar.
