Though no one was injured in the incident, concerns have been raised over weak buildings in Vasco city and this is the fourth collapse of a portion of a building in the past six months.
Hours before officials had convened a meeting with society members of Pushpanjali building, following the collapse of a balcony of the third floor on Friday, the parapet of the second floor of Pereira Chambers collapsed in the wee hours of Monday, damaging the air conditioner compressors mounted on the wall of the building.
Incidentally in both cases, the incidents took place in the wee hours and no one was by the roadside at the time.
Onlookers gathered at the site on Monday claimed that if the parapet had to collapse during the busy hours of Monday morning, it could easily have injured pedestrians and motorists below the building.
As soon as the building owner was informed about the incident, labourers were immediately dispatched to the site and they
cleared the debris to avoid any hindrance to pedestrians and motosrists.
When contacted, MMC Chairperson Deepak Naik said he along with Chief Officer Deepali Naik inspected the site and they directed the building owner to carry out maintenance of the building before any further mishap.
“The owner has assured to carry out temporary repair work and after the monsoon, the entire maintenance of the building will be carried out to avoid such incidents in future,” said Deepak.
