Six convicted in 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case

A special TADA court here on Friday convicted six persons including mastermind Mustafa Dossa and extradited gangster Abu Salem in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case, 24 years after the attacks left 257 people dead. It, however, let off one accused Abdul Quayyum, for want of evidence against him.

Losing glitter: Jewellery to cost more post implementation of GST

Jewellery is all set to get expensive by at least 2% from July 1, when goods-and-services tax (GST) tax comes into picture. As of now, value-added-tax (VAT) @ 1% is the only tax charged on jewellery. But, under GST regime, finished jewellery will be taxed at 3%.

PANAJIPramith Raikar, president, Goa Gold Dealers Association, said, “Definitely, there will be an increase in price of jewellery to the extent of 2% once GST gets implemented from July 1.”When asked if price increase will impact demand, Raikar replied, “In short run, there will be some impact on the demand of jewellery.
