Mindful of the precarious condition of the building, the Mormugao deputy collector and SDM has directed society members of Pushpanjali building in Vasco to advance their emergency meeting and vacate the premises at the earliest.
Mormugao Deputy Collector Mahadev Arondekar has directed Pushpanjali Co-operative Society chairman, Vijay E M to prepone the emergency meeting of the society members to June 15 instead of June 18, as the building is in critical condition.
Taking cognizance of the news reports that appeared in the local dailies about the balcony collapse of Puspanjali building Vasco, Arondekar convened a meeting of the Pushpanjali Cooperative Society chairman Vijay, Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Deepak Naik, MMC Chief Officer Deepali Naik, Mormugao DySP Lawrence D’Souza, Vasco PI Nolasco Raposo, Vasco Traffic Cell PSI Razak Sheik, Vasco fire officer Francisco Mendes and other
MMC officials to take stock of the situation and to know about other unsafe buildings in the port town.
Viajy informed Arondekar that 10 families including two original owners are occupying the dilapidated Pushpanjali building and the tenants are ready to vacate the premises, while two original owners have refused to vacate as the building is disputed.
“We have called an emergency meeting of the society members on June 18 to highlight the condition of the building and request them to vacate the flats before any tragedy strikes,” said Vijay.
CO Deepali refused to give them such a long period and citing the dangerous condition of the structure urged Arondekar to direct Vijay to prepone the emergency meeting to June 15.
“Looking at the condition of the building, there is every possibility that some more portion of the building might collapse.
We served you the notice in 2011 and the recent eviction notice period ends on Tuesday and if occupants do not vacate the flats, then we will start our process to evict them forcefully,” said Deepali.
“We request the society members and the chairman to prepone the meeting to June 15 and direct the occupants to vacate the flats,” added Deepali.
Acting on Deepali’s request, Arondekar directed Vijay to prepone the emergency meeting and direct all the occupants to vacate the premises immediately, failing which the authorities will be forced to act.
