CURCHOREM
It may be recalled that there has been tension in Caurem village over transportation of e-auctioned ore since the last few days. The locals have been demanding that ore transportation be given to them.
When ore transportation commenced from Caurem mine on Wednesday morning, about 40 locals gathered to stop the activity.
However, sensing law and order problem, Quepem Mamlatdar Laxmikant Kuttikar directed the villagers to stay aside and not to create hindrance to the ore transportation, but the locals refused to follow the order and continued to protest and obstruct the transportation.
Later, the mamlatdar gave orders to Quepem Police Inspector Pravin Gauns Dessai to arrest those obstructing the ore transportation.
Acting on the directives, 30 women and 8 men were arrested. “Quepem Police have booked them under Sections 143, 147, 341, 332, 353, 506 r/w 149 of IPC. Later, they were taken to Quepem Police station and were also taken for medical examination,” informed PSI Akshay Gaonkar.
