CANACONA
An unexpected set of visitors burst into a mattress store in the heart of Chaudi-Canacona taking the store owner by surprise on Wednesday evening.
The incident took place at about 7.15 pm as the store owner Ajit Pai was alone inside the premises as he had sent his staff home early that day.
The owner had gone to the upper section of the store to end business for the day, and though the shutters were not downed, the glass door was closed.
Suddenly, a female wild boar and three boarlets barged into the store by breaking the glass door and began moving around the premises.
On hearing the shattered glass, Pai came rushing down and was startled to find the four wild boars inside his store.
CCTV footage captured the movement of the four wild boars and Pai was seen rushing out of his store. A short while later, the wild boars left the store and disappeared from sight.
A few two-wheelers parked in the area were also thrown down by these wild boars in the process.
The presence of the wild boars came as a surprise since the mattress store is located right in the centre of the busy commercial town of Chaudi and in a building which has other shops. Incidentally, most shops were closed by 6.30 pm when the incident took place.
By Thursday morning, the unexpected visit of the wild boars became the talk of the town.
It is unclear from where the wild boars had entered the town and some suspected that they may have arrived from the jungle area behind the Ruby Residency complex.
