A special meeting of all councillors has been convened on January 31 to elect the new chairperson of the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC).Director of Urban Development Gurudas Pilarnekar has invited a special council meeting of all councillors to elect the chairperson which will be held in the municipal hall at 11 am.
Those who wish to contest the election are requested to hand over their nomination papers to the Chief Officer before noon on January 30.
The nomination paper forms are available in the office of the Mapusa Municipal Council.
Deputy Collector and SDO-1, Gurusdas Desai has been appointed as the Presiding Officer to oversee and conduct the election process.
The election to the chairperson was necessitated after former chairperson Shubanghi Vaigankar resigned from her post after running the affairs of the council for nearly 18 months.
Sources informed that soon after the election of the new chairperson, Benkar is expected to put in his papers to honour an unwritten commitment allowing other councillors to run for the post.
