A Goan couple is on the lookout on charges of illegally transferring property in Taleigao to a Delhi businessman and cheating the original buyer, who already invested Rs 2.50 crore for taking possession of the now-disputed tourist accommodation.
The incident comes at a time when the State is stung by a spate of land frauds with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) (Land Grab), probing around 45 First Information Reports and inquiring into several dozen complaints.
In his complaint to the Panaji police, Sunil Chuggani, who identifies himself as the authorized director of M/s New Wave Holiday Homes Pvt Ltd, alleged that Eloy aka Eloi Gonsalves and Jeanette aka Janet aka Janita Gonsalves sold the property located in three survey numbers to one Ajay Dhawan, proprietor of India Ocean World Pvt Ltd of West Delhi without his knowledge or following proper legal norms.
“The complainant has already paid Rs 2.50 crore to the accused to purchase the property before January 26, 2022. When he approached them to return the amount, the accused abused him in filthy language and threatened him with dire consequences,” the Panaji police said quoting the complaint copy.
An offence under sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (Cheating), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (ii) (threatening with dire consequences) of the Indian Penal Code is registered against both the accused.
“We are looking out for them to take custody. Their questioning and verification of documents will be carried out, and if required, the Delhi businessman could also be summoned for questioning,” the official said.
