After the entry of Sumul Dairy in Goa, there has been a significant rise in their milk production which has now reached to 10 per cent of what Goa Dairy produces.
During the past 23 months, Sumul has purchased approximately 40,27,395 litres of milk from the dairy farmers while Goa Dairy has produced 4,46,01,238 litres of milk during the same period.
Sumul Dairy started operating in the state of Goa from March 2016. During the initial 10 months Sumul could collect 24,000 to 96,000 litres of milk per month. From the 11th month Sumul began to collect 1,80,000 litres of milk. Then the past 12 months witnessed a significant growth in Sumul’s milk production and currently it is purchasing 5,00,000 litres of milk every month from the farmers.
However, Sumul’s presence has not been affected the production of Goa Dairy. In March 2016 Goa Dairy’s milk production was 20,41,961 litres of milk. After that until now Goa Dairy has been purchasing 18 to 25 lakh litres per month.
Meanwhile, both, Sumul Dairy and Goa Dairy have stressed on increasing the number of dairy farmers, to increase their milk production. This is the reason why extra milk has been produced in the State.
Goa government has offered a chance to Sumul Dairy to follow the business pattern of Amul Dairy in the state of Goa and to create new opportunities of self-employment in milk production sector. At present, both the dairies are producing minimum 25,000,00 litres of milk in Goa.
