The Colva police has booked a resident of Sancoale, Mubarak Khan after he allegedly fired in the air at 49 ER’s restaurant at Colva in the wee hours of Monday.
The police has recovered the empty case of the round fired from the pistol and have exuded confidence of recovering the weapon Monday night.
District Police chief, SP Arvind Gawas informed that the accused Mubarak Khan, who is running a gymnasium, has been placed under arrest under the Arms Act and under Section 307 of the IPC for attempt to murder.
He said the accused had come to the restaurant in his jeep at around 2.30 am on Monday for a drink, but picked up an argument with the watchman manning the premises.
The accused, he said, was upset when the watchman prevented from opening the gate and he brandished his pistol. However, as a bouncer recognised him as he was a frequent visitor to the restaurant, he was allowed entry inside and was served beer.
“We have information that when he was having drinks, his rounds fell on the floor, but he collected the rounds before exiting from the premises,” SP Gawas said.
While he was leaving the premises, he came across the watchman and brandished the pistol at him before firing in the air, before he went towards the beach square to another restaurant.
In the meantime, the Colva police rushed to the beach square and managed to detain Mubarak at around 3 am.
On Monday morning, the accused was taken to the restaurant by the police as a forensic team also joined in the investigations.
“We have managed to recover the empty case of the round fired from the pistol. We combed the entire area along with the accused, but the pistol could not be recovered throughout the day,” SP Gawas said, adding that the accused has now promised to show the place where he abandoned the weapon after the firing incident.
DySP, Margao Raju Raut Desai also joined the investigations along with Colva police station in-charge, Filomena Costa as they exuded confidence of recovering the weapon later Monday night.
