Be present for hearing: Court to Parulekar

MAPUSA:  A Mapusa court on Monday directed former tourism minister Dilip Parulekar and two others to remain present in court on August 16 in the infamous Serula Comunidade cheating and land grab case.
JMFC Judge Shantashri Kudchadkar directed Parulekar and the other two accused, then attorney of Comunidade of Serula, Peter Martins and then Administrator of Comunidade of Bardez, Irene Sequeira to furnish surety and face trial.
Adv Aires Rodrigues had filed a case against the trio in the High Court.
Drawing the court’s attention, Rodrigues maintained that Dilip Parulekar in collusion and connivance with government authorities and the crime branch has been able to drag the case against him for over four years and very high-handedly circumvent the law.
It may be recalled on Rodrigues' petition, the Mapusa JMFC on January 16, 2014 had directed Porvorim Police to register an FIR against Dilip Parulekar, Peter Martins and Irene Sequeira for offences under Sections 119, 120, 420 read with 120-B of the Indian Penal Code.
In his complaint, Rodrigues had said that 599 sq mt of prime land by the Chogm Road at Porvorim was given away to Parulekar without any auction and without following the procedure contemplated under the Code of Comunidade and that the whole intention was to fraudulently facilitate the doling out of prime Comunidade land to the former minister.
The case against Parulekar was initially probed by the Porvorim Police and later transferred to the Crime Branch.
In 2016, crime branch sought to close the case against Parulekar but the North Goa Principal District & Sessions Judge rejected the move.
