5 held with suspected ganja worth in Vasco

Vasco police have arrested five persons on charges of possessing ganja during a raid at New Vaddem, Vasco.

According to police, the accused have been identified as Sonu Kumar Mahale, Gaus Sayed and Akansh Vovoikar, all from New Vaddem, Hussain Shaikh of Jairam Nagar, Vasco, and Sachin Jaiswal of Fakir Galli, Vasco.

Acting on a complaint lodged by PSI Nikhil Dessai of Vasco Police Station, police said the accused were found in possession of 339 grams of dry greenish leaves, stems, flowering and fruiting parts of a plant emitting an intoxicating odour, suspected to be ganja. The seized contraband is estimated to be worth approximately Rs 33,000.

The raid was conducted between 6.49 pm and 8.48 pm at New Vaddem, where the accused were allegedly apprehended while in possession of the narcotic substance.

Vasco Police have registered an offence under Section 20(b)(ii)(A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Suresh Velip of Vasco Police Station under the supervision of PI Vaibhav Naik and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
