PORVORIM
Five persons sustained minor injuries on Friday when a bus and a car collided with each other near the Pinto Rosario Hospital at Porvorim. The mishap led to a major traffic jam along the Guirim-Porvorim stretch of the highway.
According to Porvorim police, the mishap took place at about 3.30 pm when a bus was proceeding from Panaji to Valpoi.
On reaching Socorro, the bus driver Nazir Sheikh lost control of the vehicle and collided with the oncoming car which was proceeding from Mopa to Panaji.
Four passengers from the bus and one passenger in the car were injured in the mishap. They were later discharged from hospital after treatment.
The impact was such that the bus turned sideways, and the car was badly damaged.
The mishap led to a major traffic jam along the stretch of the highway, with vehicles stranded right between Guirim and Porvorim.
A Porvorim police team rushed to the site and cleared both vehicles involved in the mishap with the assistance of a crane. Porvorim police has registered a case and are investigating the matter.
