Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho said around 500 tenements of Goa Housing Board, which had already paid fees but had no valid status for several years, would now be legalised for the first time in the State.
Speaking to reporters alongside a function to launch a road work, Godinho said many illegal houses would also be regularised through the revenue department.
"There are around 543 tenements of Goa Housing board and people have not yet got the houses on their names and they have been waiting for the last 35-40 years, despite paying the money.”
“But now for the first time, the GHB will legalise the tenements and people will get the houses on their names. At the same time, many other houses will be regularised and a proposal is going on through the revenue department," said Godinho.
Godinho said he had recently taken Union Railway Minister Piyush Goel to New Vaddem and Goel had assured a new railway overbridge at Shantinagar.
“The plans have been passed and very soon Shantinagar area would have a new railway overbridge connecting New Vaddem to the highway,” said Godinho.
The minister claimed that there has been no opposition in the Dabolim constituency to the double-tracking project.
“Railway officials and I had a site inspection along the entire stretch and all people joined me in support and there was not even a single objection, basically because we are not razing even a single house.”
“People have voluntarily permitted to raze their extensions for the doubling of tracks and the Railways has agreed to give them another railway overbridge and a new 3.5-meter wide road because residents earlier had a small pathway,” said Godinho.
