Financial bids of 2 companies qualify to set up 3 bio-methanation plants

MARGAO
The Margao Municipal Council on Friday finally opened the financial bids for setting up of the three bio-methanation plants at the SGPDA markets, with Ms Urja Bio Systems Pvt Ltd qualifying for the tender for two plants and Atmos Power Pvt Ltd for the third plant.

Margao Municipal Chief Officer, Agnelo Fernandes told the media after the opening of the financial bids that he would place the file before the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA) for further action.

The MMC had floated tenders to set up three bio-methanation plants at the SGPDA wholesale fish market, retail market and the fish market. A total of three bidders had placed their bids for the three plants.

After the opening of the financial bids, it’s now clear that Urja Bio Systems Pvt Ltd bids have found favour in respect of the two bio-methanation plants to be set up at the SGPDA retail and fish market.

Chief Officer Agnelo informed that Urja Bio systems Pvt Ltd has qualified to set up the two plants after the company’s bid turned out the lowest compared to the other bidders after quoting 4.75 per cent above the bid price. The company has quoted a figure of Rs 24.80 crore each to set up the two bio-methantion plants.

On the other hand, Atmos Power Pvt Ltd has qualified for the bid to set up the 5 TPD bio-methanation plant at the wholesale fish market. The company has quoted a price of Rs 23.91 crore after quoting four per cent above the bid price.

The  MMC had invited bids for prospective companies for the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the three 5 TPD bio-methanation plants with power generation and operation and maintenance of the same for five years.

Meanwhile, the Chief Officer told the media that he would personally visit the GSUDA office on Monday with the details of the opening of the financial bids with senior Urban Development officials before the civic body gives effect to the tendering process.

Treading a cautious path on the bio-methanation plants given the controversy surrounding the number of such plants required to resolve the Sonsodo imbroglio, the Chief Officer has been keeping the Director of Urban Development abreast of the decisions on the bio-methanation tenders.

In fact, sources in the know say that though the civic body had floated tenders for the three bio-methanation plants, senior Municipal officials are of the firm opinion that the civic body should go for only one plant initially to test the efficacy of the bio-methanation technology before giving the work order to the contractor to set up the remaining two plants.
