Hectic preparations are underway for the three-day Lukosthav-2016 at Amone-Poinguinim, with 50,000 people expected to attend the festival which begins on Friday.
Tribal Welfare Minister Ramesh Tawadkar, who is the working chairman of the organising committee, has been personally supervising various aspects at the State’s largest Lukosthav.
The annually organised Lukosthav at Amone is being jointly organised by Adarsh Yuva Sangh (Gaondongrim-Cotigao), Balram Gram Vikas Saunstha (Amone-Poinguinim) in collaboration with the Directorate of Arts and Culture, Sports & Youth Affairs and SAG.
The Lukosthav will have everything traditionally used and practised under the sun in culture, sports, agriculture and farming.
Addressing a news conference, Tawadkar along with office bearers of Adarsh Yuva Sangh and Balram Gram Vikas Saunstha, said the Lukosthav which started 15 years ago, has now generated immense interest not only within the State, but also among the participants from neighbouring states of Maharashtra and Karnataka.
“The three-day event will have everything, especially traditionally rich practices of farming, eating, playing (local and adventurous games, etc), cultural habits, amongst others,” he said.
On Friday, tribal sports festival will be organised, in which Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, Volleyball and traditional games competition will be held. Preparation of related grounds and play fields are in final stages at Adarsh Gram, the venue of Lukosthav-2016.
Social Welfare Minister Mahadev Naik will be the chief guest on January 8, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar will inaugurate the Lukosthav 2016 on Saturday morning in the presence of Panchayat Minister Rajendra Arlekar, Cuncolim MLA Rajan Naik and Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral.
Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Arts and Cultural Minister Dayanand Mandrekar, Sakhali MLA Dr Pramod Sawant and Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida will be present for the concluding function on Sunday.
Various competitions including sports will be organised at taluka, district and state level and prizes will be awarded.
Agri-machinery and science laboratories will be added attraction, where traditional medicines for various ailments, besides food/eatables having traditional valour will be exhibited and sold.
