A 52-year-old woman was killed in a road mishap near the Cortalim Cross on Sunday and a taxi driver has been arrested in this connection.
According to Verna PSI Shridhar Kamat, the incident occurred at around 7 pm when a taxi was proceeding in a rash and negligent manner from Cortalim towards Verna.
“On reaching the Cortalim Cross, the taxi struck a two-wheeler from the rear. The rider Krishna Desai (57) and the pillion rider, Grishma Desai (52), both from Gosavi Wadda Usgao, fell off the vehicle, causing them grievous injuries.”
“The riders were shifted to GMC hospital in the 108 ambulance, but the pillion rider Grishma Desai was declared dead on arrival at Hospicio Hospital in Margao.”
“The taxi driver, Yalagurdappa Kunnur (26) of Bagalkot-Karnataka has been arrested under Sections 279,338 and 304A of IPC, and his car has also been seized by the police,” said PSI Kamat.
Verna police is investigating the case.
