Whenever there is an apprehension of a rise in the price of fuel, one sees serpentine queues at petrol stations. The sole aim is to fill the fuel tank to the maximum before the price rise. A few days back one witnessed long queues at petrol stations in anticipation of a rise in prices due to the continued hostilities between Russia and Ukraine. Standing in long queues to get the fuel tank filled to the brim seems like an exercise in futility. One does not stock the home with essential commodities before a price rise simply because they are perishable goods. One needs to resort to other means to tackle the hike in fuel prices. This includes car-pooling, as also using public-transport system. In today’s world many households could be owners of more than one four-wheeler. They may be able to afford the hike in fuel price. It is those who belong to the lower-income group who are most affected.
