After the umpteenth debacle in the recent state assembly polls, the Congress held yet another introspection session wherein Sonia Gandhi enacted the usual drama of ‘offering’ to resign (why doesn’t she simply resign ) as the party president along with Rahul and Priyanka if it was felt by the rank and file that their leadership lacks steadiness. The stunned Congress courtiers and sycophants (loyalists, remember?) expectedly unanimously rejected the offer and pleaded with Sonia to continue, (mis)lead from the front, address organisational weaknesses and effect necessary changes. Demand for a party rejig in these farcical stocktaking exercises post every electoral rout has been a recurring theme in the past but it always peters out to status quo; same old, same old with the Gandhis consolidating their position at the helm. The Congress is a rudderless ship captained by clueless people without a vision or strategy who simply offer excuses and find scapegoats within their own party for defeat after defeat after defeat. These ‘chintan shivirs’ (brainstorming sessions ) hold no purpose other than to offer a stage for the Gandhis’ theatrics and pretences of making ‘sacrifices’ for the party.
