Announcing the development, Director of Mines and Geology Prasanna Acharya said starting Monday, 538 trucks that were found to be in violation of speed limits would not be allowed to transport ore for a day. “538 trucks have been debarred from trips tomorrow for violating speed limits. SMSes have already been sent to the driver on the mobile numbers registered with us. In addition violation reports have been sent to all the companies to justify the debarring,” he said. He also added that the speed limit for both loaded and unloaded trucks was 40 KMPH. “Similar action shall be initiated against trucks carrying minor minerals as well, like laterite stones and sand,” said Acharya adding that registration for such trucks would commence soon. The system work on a vehicle tracking system which generates an electronic trip sheet each time it crosses a weigh bridge. A one time offence will cause a truck to be debarred for a day, while a second office will earn the driver 2 days, third time 3 days, fourth time 5 days, fifth time 7 days, sixth time 15 days and eighth time will earn a one month debarring and ninth will earn the driver being debarred for 2 months.
