MAPUSA

The Mapusa Traffic Police on Friday seized six Bullet motorcycles which were fitted with modified silencers and were causing noise pollution within the city limits.

Among the violators, five are local residents, while one is a youth from Maharashtra.

A Mapusa court later imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each on the owners of these seized motorcycles and issued a stern warning to the owners concerned that the registration of their two-wheelers would be cancelled if any further violation of the law occurs.

The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Mapusa, also directed the motorcycle owners to immediately remove the modified silencers and replace them with the original factory-fitted silencers. They have also been strictly warned against committing such violations in the future.

Led by Mapusa Traffic Police Inspector Marlon D’Souza, the police team intercepted the six Bullet motorcycles fitted with modified silencers, which emitted ear-splitting noise and were a significant cause of noise pollution in the area.

One of the violators was a youth from Maharashtra who had visited Mapusa to meet his relatives.

Meanwhile, for the past few days, citizens in Mapusa and its surrounding areas have been facing considerable nuisance due to two-wheelers fitted with modified silencers. Consequently, the Traffic Police have launched a rigorous campaign against such undisciplined riders who blatantly violate traffic laws.
