Residents of Parra took advantage of the free medical camp organised by the Parra panchayat in association with the Siolim primary health centre recently.
More than 60 people attended the medical camp which was held at Parra panchayat hall.
The doctors attached to the Siolim health centre attended to the patients and those whoever were affected with ailments were recommended medication.
Speaking at the camp, Parra Sarpanch Delilah Lobo said that such health camps were organised every three to four months in a nearby polyclinic for the benefit of the people of the village. “We organise such camps regularly so that people can detect any disease at an early stage. Whenever any sickness is detected at the first stage it’s always better to find a solution,” Lobo said.
She thanked the doctors and the government for taking the initiative of organising the free health camp in the village.
Dr Sheryl D’Souza, health officer of Siolim PHC said that such camps were organised in every place wherever health sub-centres existed.
“These camps are basically for non-communicable disease for detection of ailments like hypertension, diabetes etc. Diabetes is a killer disease. Many people have the disease but they are not aware and such camps give an opportunity for people. If detected they can take all the precautions,” Dr D’Souza said.
A gynaecologist, Madhumita Tripathi, medical officer, Dr Raksha Borkar, dentist, Dr Preeti Chodankar, ayurvedic physician, Dr Ameena Patre and Ayush medical officer, Dr Shruti Narvekar and some assistants of the health centre attended the camp.
