A 60-year-old man who was allegedly assaulted by four persons at Manshiwada in Chikhali near Colvale on Wednesday evening succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim.

The deceased has been identified as Krishna alias Shango Naik (60).

Following his death, the Colvale Police have arrested Christopher Paul of Chikhali and Pratik Gawas of Nadora on charges of murder.

Two other accused, identified as Stephen Paul and Shravan, are absconding and efforts are underway to trace them.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 5 pm on Wednesday. The accused had reportedly gone to Chikhali to celebrate the traditional Sao Joao festival.

While returning home in an allegedly intoxicated condition, they came across Krishna Naik near his residence.

Police said that Krishna had an ongoing dispute with Christopher Paul and his brother. The longstanding rivalry allegedly led to an altercation, during which the accused attacked Krishna with sticks and also assaulted him with kicks and punches. After the assault, the accused fled the scene.

Local residents rushed the injured Krishna to hospital, from where he was shifted by ambulance to GMC Bambolim for further treatment.

However, despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries at around 10 pm on Wednesday.

Acting swiftly after the incident, the Colvale Police launched an investigation and arrested Christopher Paul and Pratik Gawas.

Following Krishna's death, the case was upgraded and offences under murder charges were invoked.

Police are continuing their search for the remaining two accused, Stephen Paul and Shravan, who remain at large.

Further investigation is in progress.
