Six panchayats in Saligao constituency have teamed with the Zilla Panchayat members to offer free vegetarian lunch and dinner to Covid patients under home isolation in these villages.
The panchayats of Pilerne-Marra, Sangolda, Reis Magos, Saligao, Guirim and Nerul have tied up with Sai Mandir, Sangolda, under the banner of Shree Sai Anandan Seva Kendra to supply the free veg meals to the Covid patients.
Explaining the purpose behind this initiative, Pilerne Panch Karan Govekar said Covid has affected several families in Saligao constituency.
“In some families, 2-3 members are down with Covid and there is nobody to cook at their homes. In order to provide them support during these difficult times, the sarpanchas and panchas of these six villages decided to offer some help to residents under home isolation in these villages.
“As part of the project, the six panchayats will provide free vegetarian food (lunch and dinner) to Covid patients in need. Residents under home isolation need to contact the sarpanch or panch members of their respective wards and place their order one day in advance.”
“We would appreciate any support to this cause in the form of donations like grocery items, vegetables, containers, etc,” Govekar added.
