According to Mormugao police, the supporters of two political parties organised rallies on Saturday at about 5.30 pm without the permission of the competent authority, violating model code of conduct and when Section 144 was in force.
Police said both the groups came face to face at Headland-Sada and were involved in argument before they clashed. During the argument, one person allegedly assaulted Promod Moraskar.
The police added that they have filed a case against both the groups, which is registered as a State complaint for unlawful assembly, rioting and violating model code of conduct when Section 144 was in force.
The police said case was registered on behalf of the State against Vishwas Shetye, Sanket Joshi, Promod Moraskar, Pratik Palikar, Hemant Palikar, Dattaram Chopdekar and Pawan Kolamnkar. They were arrested under Sections 143, 147, 148, 188 read with Section 149 IPC.
The police said all the seven accused were arrested and later released on bail.
In another case, Mormugao Police registered a case against one person for assaulting Promod
Moraskar. The accused is absconding. PSI Melito Fernandes is investigating the assault case, while PSI
Sajith Pillai is investigating the case filed on behalf of the State.
