7 lakh got first dose, govt ready for third wave: CM

Says taken several steps in health sector to tackle Covid crisis

MAPUSA
Stating that 7 lakh people have received the first vaccination dose in the State, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday said the government was fully prepared to face the third (Covid) wave.

“Around 7 lakh people have taken the first dose till today. We can safely say more than 50 per cent people have taken the first dose and we expect to complete the remaining target by July 30,” Sawant said.

He said the government has taken several steps in the health sector to tackle the ongoing Covid crisis.

“We have organised Tika Utsav (free vaccination for all) and have received good response. Panchayat members, MLAs, social organisations and the general public have responded well and we are confident we will meet the target of administering the first dose by July 30,” he said.

The CM further stated that the government set up oxygen (LMO) tanks at the super speciality hospital in Bambolim, South Goa District Hospital and North Goa District Hospital within a short span of time.

He said, besides, PSA oxygen plants were set up at three places.

He also said that all hospitals have been prepared to tackle the third wave if it strikes in the State.

“Even if the third wave comes, we have already set up an expert committee. Experts from the Indian Paediatric Association, Indian Medical Association and government doctors at various levels have been consulted to purchase equipment, infrastructure and medicine required to tackle the third wave. We are fully prepared for the third wave,” Sawant said.
