While Sattari and others parts in the State have been grappling with a number of forest fires, fires were also reported in Canacona taluka and firefighters attended to seven calls on Saturday.
“We do not have any active fire incidents in Canacona as of Saturday, but yes, our men were on their toes attending to several fire calls. On Saturday alone, our men attended to seven fire calls,” informed Cuncolim Fire Station Officer Dilesh Gaonkar, who is holding additional charge of Canacona fire station.
According to sources, a fire-tender had to rush as early as 2 am on Saturday to douse a fire at a cashew plantation near Shri Mallikarjun Temple in Shristhal. They then attended to extinguish a fire on dry grass near Shri Mallikarjun Temple at 4 am and about an hour later, they attended to another call also in Shristhal.
The fire station then received a call that dry grass was on fire near Bhumipurush Temple in Gulem and had to rush again at Shristhal to attend to another fire call.
At 9.10 am, firefighters went to douse fire at a patch of dried grass in Shellim-Loliem. Later at 4 pm, a fire tender was deputed to Bhaptal to attend to another fire incident.
Earlier on Wednesday, a fire tender extinguished a fire at a jackfruit tree in Dapot“Maxem and later in the day, went to Shristhal to attend to a fire on dried grass.
On Thursday, a fire tender received a call that dried grass was on fire near the Canacona KRC Station at Nagarcem and later,
extinguished a fire at a residential house belonging to Vishwas Dhuri in Colomb. Later at night, a fire tender attended to a call pertaining to dried grass on fire at Val-Agonda.
