Seven stray cattle were mysteriously found dead at Desaiwada-Uguem in Sanguem.
Sanguem MLA Subhash Phaldessai and Sanguem Mamlatdar visited the site to take stock of the incident. Sanguem Mamlatdar said post mortem of the cattle could not be conducted, as they were decomposed.
According to reports, the deputy collector on Tuesday afternoon informed Sanguem Mamlatdar Manoj Korgaonkar that some cattle were lying dead at Dessaiwada-Uguem and directed the Mamlatdar to visit the place and inspect. Accordingly, Mamlatdar Korgaonkar went to the spot and conducted the inspection.
Speaking to The Goan, Sanguem Mamlatdar Manoj Korgaonkar said they were initially told that about 15 cattle were found dead at Desaiwada-Uguem.
“To avoid the spread of epidemic disease, if any, I immediately inspected the place.”
He further said on reaching the spot, it was found that about seven cattle were lying dead and were partially decomposed.
He added that there were no claimants to the dead cattle.
Korgaonkar said he called a government veterinary doctor to conduct post-mortem, but said it was not possible as the dead cattle were partially decomposed.
“Later, I instructed the Sanguem police to conduct panchanama and dead cattle were buried with the help of an earthmover,” said the Mamlatdar.
