BELAGAVI
Seven workers died on the spot after a Tempo Cruiser vehicle overturned and fell in the Ballari nullah on Kanbargi Road about 8 kms from Belagavi.
Among the 14 injured in the accident, the condition of three is said to be critical. The incident occured during the wee hours of Sunday when the cruiser transporting workers from Akkatangerhal village in Gokak taluk was coming to Desur, Belagavi to work near Desur railway station.
Reports said that the driver Bheemesh lost control over the overspeeding cruiser after which it fell in the nala after taking four to five tumbles. The driver was trying to overtake another vehicle when the accident occured. Police Commissioner Dr M B Borlingiah and police team visited the spot. Condition of three persons is said to be critical.
The deceased have been identified as Adiveppa Chilambavi (27), Basavaraj Dalavi (30), Basavaraj Hanumannavara (51), Akasha Gasti (22), Fakirappa Harijana (55) and Mallappa Dasanasetty (30) and Basavaraja Sanadi (35).
Bodies of the deceased were taken to BIMS for postmortem and later handed over to the relatives of the deceased.
