Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar on Saturday morning said that it was vital to have awareness camps against the use of drugs, especially if taken up by schools . Salkar was speaking to reporters after flagging off a Drug Awareness Rally taken up by students and staff of the Deep Vihar Higher Secondary School in Vasco.
" Deep Vihar Higher secondary school has been taking up these awareness rallies with participation of students for the last 25 years in a bid to spread a message of " Say No to Drugs ".
"Such rallies should happen across all areas and use of drugs must be completely stopped because a person who takes drugs spoils not only his life but that of his family, friends and society as well . It also becomes too late sometimes for a person to quit using drugs at a later stage and hence these things should not be used in the first place and the people must be vigilant and report to authorities in case we see anyone using, promoting or dealing with drugs," said Salkar.
Mrunali Korgaonkar, the principal of Deep Vihar Higher secondary school said that the school had been holding rallies against use of drugs for over 25 years since inception.
" Every year we have these rallies to make the people aware of the ill effects of narcotics and students participating with banners, placards and slogans. The children are themselves motivated of the ill effects and they can start working against the drugs in their houses and society also . We as a team of staff and students create these rallies every year but the last two years we could not have these rallies amidst the pandemic," said Korgaonkar.
