78 per cent of rape victims in Goa were in 12-30 age group

Goa Police registered 86 cases of rapes committed on 88 women in the year 2015 with the total number of cases involving sexual offences being pegged at 270.

The figures have been published by the National Crime Records Bureau of the Ministry of Home Affairs in its report ‘Crime in India 2015 statistics’.   
Estimating the mid-2015 population of women in Goa at 9.2 lakh, the report provides extensive data on the 365 cases of crimes against women registered in Goa in the year 2015.   
A quick glance at the age group of the rape victims shows that almost 78 per cent of the victims belonged to the age group of 12 to 30 years. While 17 victims belonged to the age group of 12 to 16 years, 23 were between 16 and 18 years and 29 were aged 18 to 30 years. Eight victims were between the age of 30 to 45 years.   
In addition to this, 11 victims were below the age of 12 years.   
Of the 86 cases of rape reported in 2015, four were cases of incest and two were cases of gang rape.   
Apart from cases of sexual harassment, Goa Police also registered 19 cases of cruelty by husband or his relatives, three cases of abetment of suicide of woman and four cases of insult to modesty of a woman at office premises.   
The report has further stated that there were 242 cases of crime against children. Of these, four were cases of murder, 50 were cases of rape of a child and one case of child trafficking.   
The total number of human trafficking cases registered in 2015 was 29. However, human trafficking contribute 1.5 per cent to the total cognizable crimes in Goa, the highest rate in the country vis-à-vis total crime rate of a State. Telangana also recorded an equally high rate of human trafficking cases in 2015.
