MARGAO
Goa Municipal employees' Association President Keshav Prabhu and general secretary Anil Shirodkar said municipal workers across the State will strike work from Friday in support of their demand for the implementation of the 7th pay commission recommendations for the employees.
Keshav pointed out that the municipal workers employed in the two Municipal councils of Mapusa and Ponda since the councils have taken the resolutions to implement the 7th pay commission recommendations. “Workers in the rest of the municipal councils will join the strike on Friday," he said.
Association general secretary Anil Shirodkar told The Goan that garbage collection in the jurisdiction of Margao Municipal Council will not take place on Friday since workers and employees of the council will join the strike. “Employees and workers of the Margao Municipal Council will all join the strike on Friday in protest against the MMC’s failure to pass a resolution to implement the 7th pay commission recommendation," he said, adding that garbage collection will come to a halt on Friday unless the civic body takes a call on the issue.
Shirodkar said that though the Association had also asked the government to take a call on the regularisation of the daily rated workers as full-fledged employees, workers will resort to the strike primarily over the failure of the civic bodies to implement the new pay recommendations.
