About 80 persons were evacuated while several houses and three bridges were damaged, as several villages were cut off in Sattari due to floods in the taluka on Friday.
According to reports, the persons were evacuated due to heavy flooding in the river at Savarshe. Water also flooded about 15 houses in Khadki, while two houses collapsed at Christian wada in Valpoi municipal area. A number of houses were also inundated in Velus area.
Around 15 families from Savarshe were evacuated by the Valpoi fire services, while 3 families from Valpoi were shifted to safer place.
Due to increase in water levels at the Mhadei river, water began flowing from the Khadki bridge and traffic was disrupted for about seven hours.
Bridges were also damaded in Pelavade, Paikul and Ghoteli areas, cutting off contact with many villages in the taluka. There was large scale damage to agriculture and cultivations all over Sattari
Valpoi Municipal Council Chairperson Sehzin Sheikh said there was extensive damage in Valpoi town due to floods and heavy rains.
With the Paikul bridge damaged in Guleli and the area cut off, Panch Anil Gawde said arrangements were being made from Bondle towards Guleli, a detour of about 20 kms.
“The construction of a new bridge is already sanctioned by the State government and work will begin after the monsoon,” said Gawde.
The Pelavade bridge in Keri panchayat was also damaged and the village was cut off from Keri village.
The health minister visited the affected areas in Sattari and directed authorities to assess the damages.
