MARGAO
Hazard a guess, what’s the bed capacity of the ESI hospital, Margao which has become a major hospital for Covid patients after the South Goa district hospital?
ESI hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Vishwajit Faldessai had last week augmented the hospital bed capacity to 234 after receiving additional beds from the district authorities.
On Sunday, Dr Faldesai however made arrangements for an extra bed in the hospital to make space for the rising number of patients. “The additional bed was accommodated in between existing two beds so that it can be availed by a patient in need”, Dr Faldesai said.
He pointed out that the ESI hospital doctors, and paramedics have all risen to the occasion to meet the growing number of patients despite the crunch.
The ESI hospital was designed as a 100-bedded hospital, but the bed strength was increased to 220 beds when Coronavirus raised its ugly head in the state a year ago. The hospital’s existing bed strength has gone up to 235 with the additional bed on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the number of occupied beds in the ESI hospital as on 9 pm on Sunday was put at 234, with a lone bed available for patients.
While the total number patients admitted to ESI hospital on Sunday was put at 234, there were also 26 new admissions with around 25 patients also being discharged from the hospital while two were transferred to the Covid hospital.
Three deaths were reported from the hospital on Sunday.
